It might seem like all you really need to do in order to be a successful real estate investor is to provide the money for a property and wait until it sells or is rented and collect the profit. But there is much more to being a successful investor than just doling out money.
A successful real estate investor knows how much to delegate, and to what person, and then manages the whole operation while keeping tabs on what money is going out, where it’s going, and watching the schedule and the bottom line. Being a successful real estate investor is not a passive career, so if you want to be a very successful real estate investor you need to be on top of everything that is going on with that real estate deal.
The most successful real estate investors are also great managers, because they need to manage the financial side of the investment deal to make sure that the numbers add up the way that they should and they also need to manage the work that is being done on the property. Leaving too much of the deal to other people can mean that you will get left holding the bag, or the checkbook, when things don’t go well.
Becoming a successful real estate investor is all about finding the right balance in your managing style. It’s important to find people that are experienced in the areas of real estate investing that you are not experienced in and rely on their judgment and expertise but at the same time you also need to stay in charge of the entire deal and make sure that they stay on track and on budget to make the investment successful. A good real estate investor will a hand in every aspect of the deal from knowing when the contractors are supposed to be done painting the kitchen to knowing what the real estate agent is doing to sell the property when it’s finished.
